So I am always on the hunt for amazing skin care…I feel like makeup is easier, if the skin is well prepped. Do you ever see those photos of models that look dewy, or almost like they have a glow going on?! Yes, some of that is lighting or dare we say…photoshop! BUT a lot of that can be credited to skin prep.
I used to be guilty of only really caring for my skin at night. I have always been a freak about cleansing, and babying my skin at night. When I first met my husband he would look at my routine and was literally speechless. LOL. I am talking, makeup remover, cleanser, exfoliant scrubs, hydrating mist, toners, masks, serums, moisturizers…It was almost like a gave myself a facial every night. Then…I turned 30….and… had a kid. Ha! So, now I am still a freak about taking care of my skin, but the steps are just much more condensed. Much, much more. So I have had to become smarter about my routine, because I know those nightly “facials” are no more. But something else I have started to not take for granted is a morning routine. I used to say, well, I just cleaned by face the night before and all I did was sleep and I am in a hurry, so either I have a fresh clean face, or I put makeup on…the latter generally won out.
But in the last 4-5 years, I have carved out more time in the morning to pamper my skin and prep it for the long day ahead. Think about it, your skin is also tired and may need a pick me up in the morning, and it will have to make it through a harsh day of sun, wind and who knows what other environmental elements. So why not arm it with moisture barrier and maybe even an SPF?!
So, with my crazy routine, came the self given title of product junkie. If you glance in my bathroom cabinet, one might say, why so many cleansers. Well, it really depends on my mood to be honest. Do I want something fruity, fresh, exfoliating, moisturizing, milky, foamy…you get the idea. But what comes with that, is lots of opinions on my favorite products. And what that gets you is…my opinion on my favorite products haha! Take that for what it is. Okay, so I will start today with cleansers, because I would just overwhelm you if I tackle my every step. I will give you my top 3 current products. A cleansing water, a cleansing oil and more “soap-like” option. Let me know what you think or if you have any of my favorites in your cabinet!
A “soap-like” foaming option…
First up, my long-time favorite…I have used this since I managed a day spa and I smelled it for the first time (I’m talking 10 years). Organic, cruelty free, paraben and sulfate free, were just added perks. This one comes from a Hungarian company called, Eminence Organics Skin Care.
Okay, so picture the pick-me-up-scent of eucalyptus with a hint of soothing lavender. It is a low foaming gel cleanser, that leaves zero residue, which I love. You can find this one online or at a local spa- their site helps you find a local retail shop near you.
As far as Cleansing Waters, that was a new concept to me a few years ago. I always considered myself to be a bubbly kinda gal. So when this was introduced to me, I just was not immediately sold. It took about half a bottle for me to admit I liked it. But now, there are days, when I may have gone more natural on my makeup and the cleansing water is what I grab. This one makes my top list for a couple reasons, the scent, the no residue and the bottle. It is a clean application and works perfectly with my cotton round or cloth. I picked this up at Sephora (I like points!), but you can find it online too. Another cool selling point on this one is that they call it a one-step product. So, it is perfect for the quick “I really don’t feel like cleansing my face but I know I need to” moment. Oh, and those times at night, where it turns into either; I remove my makeup, or I eat a hot dinner, type of night…this on a cotton round, while inhaling dinner…works perfectly! #busymomconfession
Lastly, but my current FAVE…
Literally, I countdown till it is time to wash off the day. I am one of those people that walks in the door, shoes off, jewelry off, comfiest yoga pants on and I (try) to the follow up with; makeup off…this product makes that last step feel like a treat. The other night, my little boy was looking up at me and said, “mommy, why are your rubbing your face so much??” I had honestly dazed off and was so relaxed, that I had zoned out that he was waiting on me, haha. This oil is rich, moisturizing but rinses off easily. Sometimes, when I have had a full-on full face makeup day, I will massage this on to my dry face (cue, zone out), and then remove with a warm cloth. My skin instantly feels fresh, cool and ready for the next steps…(another post for another day…). This product is the newest to my collection, but will be a lifer for sure! I suggest picking up directly from Sonia’s website. Shipping is affordable and quick!
So, I hope this has been a post that can help freshen up your routine. That is the biggest complaint I hear from clients or friends, they have used the same product for years and would love to jazz up their regimen. You can not go wrong whether you choose an oil, a water or a sudsy option…if you are like me, try them all and never get bored! Hope you have a great week…if you need me, I will be taking off my makeup…most likely, zoned out!!
