Our lips are part of the face that often get neglected and as a result, are not in the best shape for the big day. We need to fix that….After all, they are a big part of the ceremony!
Just like our skin, lips are prone to dehydration from many different sources. Lack of water intake, harsh weather conditions, needing to exfoliate, and even certain lip product ingredients can be the source of your dry lips.
What can you do to make your lips ready for the big day? Here are a few of my suggestions…
1. Drink plenty of water! I know this is so redundant, but at the end of the day our skin health and the condition of our lips depends on this ingredient. Avoiding large amounts of sodium days before really does improve your hydration overall. Don’t forget to recover with major water intake if this is just plain unavoidable (especially all the amazing food in New Orleans).
2. Don’t use lip products that are drying to the lips. Many fragrances in lipstick and lip balms are irritating and drying to the lips. If you can’t figure out why your lips are always dry and peeling, your current lipstick may be the culprit.
3. Exfoliate your lips with sugar scrubs (gently) or your toothbrush. Giving your lips a gentle scrub daily really does so much for making the skin soft and supple.
4. Use a moisturizing lip balm at bed time and after brushing in the morning. Some of my favorites are Jack Black lip balm, Kiehl’s #1 lip balm, and Aquaphor. Apply as often as needed throughout the day, but if your wearing lipstick wipe off excess balm before applying color as the balm will tend to make your lipstick bleed into the small crevices of your lips. Not a great look 🙂
Pampering your lips will yield a giant payoff. Your lips and their lucky recipient will thank you 😉
